Philosophical and leftist ramblings.

It is not only in the mountains of southeastern Mexico that neoliberalism is being resisted. In other regions of Mexico, in Latin America, in the United States and in Canada, in the Europe of the Maastricht Treaty, in Africa, in Asia, and in Oceania, pockets of resistance are multiplying. Each has its own history, its specificities, its similarities, its demands, its struggles, its successes. If humanity wants to survive and improve, its only hope resides in these pockets made up of the excluded, the left-for-dead, the ‘disposable.’

“A Garífuna woman scrubs clothes on a washboard in the Honduran coastal village of Chachawuate. The Garífuna culture was born when a slave ship wrecked off St. Vincent in 1635, throwing together West Africans aboard the vessel with St. Vincent’s Carib Indians, originally immigrants from South America. Today some 60 Garífuna fishing villages dot the Central American coast.”

As a fat, lower class woman, I’m not at the top of the 99%. The Occupy Movement is about more than fixing a dying economic system. It’s about realizing how systems such as capitalism divide us. The 99% is divided by race, class, gender, size, ability, ect and until we realize that, the movement misses something HUGE.
